GPCA and Gulf Standardization Organization sign MoU

The GCC Standardization Organization has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Union (GPIC), the region’s representative organization for the GCC region, to enhance cooperation in the development of world-class chemicals and petrochemicals standards in the Gulf region.

The MoU was signed by HE Mr. Nabil bin Amin Mulla, Secretary General of the GCC Standardization Organization and Dr. Abdul Wahab Al Saadoon, Secretary General of the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Union (GPICA); at the Federation’s Headquarters in Dubai on February 19, 2018.

HE Nabil bin Amin Mulla, Secretary General of the GCC Standardization Organization, said that through the signing of the memorandum of understanding with the Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Union, the Standardization Organization is seeking to establish joint working relations and cooperation between them to enhance communication and coordination of efforts between the two parties in many fields. Gulf industries and support intra-OIC trade by contributing to the removal of technical barriers to trade, consumer protection, environment and public health, and to support and achieve the high goals and objectives of both sides. The agreement also aims at supporting the various standardization activities and enhancing the quality infrastructure at the level of the member countries, and allows the GCC Petrochemicals and Chemicals Union to participate in the preparation of draft Gulf standard specifications in related fields and to support their adoption internationally. Related fields within the annual plan of the technical committees of the Gulf, in addition to the formation of technical committees and teams specialized in the field of petrochemicals, and cooperation in the implementation of research and studies and scientific research between the terminals And to serve the exchange of standardization and related activities.

The new MoU represents an important step in support of GFH’s efforts to strengthen cooperation with regional regulatory bodies and to ensure adherence to the highest standards that support the sustainable development of the chemicals and petrochemicals sector in the GCC countries,” said Dr. Abdulwahab Al Saadoun. The MoU aims to establish close cooperation frameworks between the two organizations in areas of common concern such as technical standards, regulations, consumer protection, environment and public health.
