Sultanate of Oman is an Arab state in Southwest Asia on the Southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It is bordered by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to the northwest, Saudi Arabia to the west, and Yemen to the Southwest. The coast is formed by the Arabian Sea on the
Southeast and the Gulf of Oman on the northeast. The Madha and Musandam enclaves are surrounded by the UAE on their land borders, with the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman forming Musandam's coastal boundaries
Metrological System in Oman
The directorate General for Specifications and Measurements (DGSM) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is the National Standards Body of Sultanate of Oman.
Established by the Royal Decree No. 39/79 (20 October 1976),
And its duties and functions defined by Royal Decree No.1/78 (3 January 1978), DGSM is responsible for Standardization, Metrology, Testing, Quality Control and Quality Assurance, Conformity Assessment and Accreditation activities in the Sultanate.
Oman National Metrology Laboratory (ONML) is referred to as National Reference Laboratory in the Sultanate. The laboratory maintain the National Measurement Standards and assure its traceability to International Standards to unify the Units in the Sultanate , also to provide highly accurate metrological services in the field of Science , industrial, health and legal sectors in order to make effective contributions supporting the national economy, maintaining safety , the environment and consumer protection.
